Chandrayaan-3 lander departs successfully, 5 days to Moon touchdown

The Chandrayaan-3 lander will start its final fall to settle on the moon on August 23.

The Lander Module of the Chandrayaan-3 project successfully separated from the main spacecraft Thursday afternoon, bringing the mission to a close.

“Thanks for the ride, mate!” ISRO described the dialogue between the Lander Module and the Propulsion Module in a message on microblogging site X.

“LM is scheduled to decelerate to a slightly lower orbit pursuit a deboosting scheduled for tomorrow virtually 1600 Hrs IST,” ISRO said.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is divided into two separate parts. The Lander Module, which moreover contains the rover, is intended to fly to the Moon and is scheduled to victorious on the lunar surface on August 23.

The Propulsion Module, which was responsible for transporting the Lander to Moon orbit, will protract to orbit the Moon for months, if not years, in an outer orbit.

The Lander Module would well-constructed the final journey to the Moon on its own. It is currently in an orbit virtually 150 km whilom the lunar surface.

Over the next few days, the Lander Module will perform two orbit-reduction operations, first achieving a circular 100 km x 100 km orbit and then decending plane remoter into a 100 km x 30 km orbit.

The Lander will start its final descent from this point in order to touch lanugo on the Moon the pursuit Wednesday. Prior to that, all of the equipment on workbench the Lander will be turned on and tested to ensure proper operation.

India would join a select group of countries—the US, the former Soviet Union, and China—that have once workaday the feat if this mission is successful.

The Propulsion Module will protract to orbit the Moon for an undetermined value of time in the interim.
